Everyone has a Leadership Back Story or your LBS.  We develop our LBS based on how we interpret the effect our past is having on our present and our future.  It is like going to a Broadway play and a new character is introduced in the second act.  The words of a narrator, the first few sentences of the other better known characters or maybe even a soliloquy performed by the new character,  will all inform the audience as to who this is and what you might expect to learn from them.

We all have this LBS running in our minds.  Our LBS has the power to motivate us or sabotage us.  Most people feel trapped by their LBS but what they fail to understand is that we get to choose the story.

I come from a challenging home of origin.  My Dad is an addict and I am from the middle of his three marriages.   If I were offering that LBS to some of you short story writers I should be living into a family bereft with hard drinking and broken relationships.  But I am not living that story.  I am happily married to the love of my life who I met 27 years ago and this winter we will celebrate 25 years of marriage.  And I have never been drunk in my life despite my regular enjoyment of frosty beverages.

I did not allow my LBS to bring on my own demise.  Instead my LBS was a guide to me.  It guided me to embrace and protect fidelity.  I learned early that loose morals inpacts a large circle of people.  I chose not to hurt the ones I love with such selfish behavior.  I learned from mistakes I witnessed and became the man I wished I would have grown up with.
